Vancouver Golfers Shouldn’t Be Hit With New Parking Fees

OPINION: Vancouver Golfers Shouldn’t Be Hit With New Parking Fees

The Vancouver Park Board will vote on April 14, 2025, on a proposal that quietly burdens local golf players: paid parking at Langara and Fraserview golf courses.

The plan is part of the Park Board Parking Strategy, which aims to increase revenue by expanding paid parking. But while staff and volunteers are offered exemptions or discounts, golfers are not. That means regular players—many of them seniors—will now have to pay extra just to access a course they already support through green fees.

This is about more than a few dollars. It’s about priorities. These are public facilities meant to promote accessible recreation. Yet, without consultation or clear justification, the Park Board is treating golfers as an easy source of revenue.

If approved, this move will make golf less affordable and less accessible. And for what? The report offers no real evidence that golf course parking is mismanaged or in short supply.

Golfers deserve fairness—not a hidden fee for doing what they’ve always done: using and enjoying public space.
